Welcome to the STEP Program page! The following information, along with the list of FAQ, will answer questions you may have concerning the gear required for STEP and will help to reduce the time you spend shopping.

Since ALERT began in 1994, the men in the program have put many brands of equipment to the test through the high demands of ALERT training. Though many product brands are available, the men consistently prefer and recommend only a select few. As a result, we opened a store on the ALERT campus in July 1997, with the goal of providing high-quality equipment at competitive prices. Today, we specialize in the gear that has met or exceeded the rigorous demands of the ALERT Program, ALERT CADET Program, and Great Expeditions.

This website offers all the products available at our store on the ALERT campus. For those participating in the STEP Program, we have compiled a suggested gear package that we recommend. Each item includes a link with additional information about that product. The list makes shopping for quality merchandise quick, easy, and satisfying. In addition, the page is easily printed for further review and price comparison. Those who order items prior to their arrival may choose to have us hold their order until they arrive at ALERT Headquarters.

On-site customer service is an added benefit to purchasing gear through ALERT. Occasionally, even the best equipment has a factory defect or may not be exactly what is needed, and we can offer immediate assistance when these problems arise. When purchases are made elsewhere in preparation for STEP, we may be unable to assist you if a problem develops with that gear.
